New Online Hosting of Journals of NMS

The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, a leading global institution that has consistently built scientific capacities of developing countries by fostering the growth of advanced studies/research in physical/mathematical sciences has kindly supported the on-line hosting of the Journal of the Nigerian Mathematical Society. This will provide the journal with cost-effective and suitable alternatives to hosting with Elsevier.

Our latest feat was a result of my recent visit to ICTP in June/July 2016 as a Visiting Scientist to the Mathematics section and the unquantifiable effort of Dr. Clement Onime of the Information and Communications Technology Section of ICTP. Our special thanks go to the Director, ICTP, Professor Fernando Quevedo for the endorsement of the Memoranda of Understanding without which we cannot go live on Open Journal System (OJS).

Now the emblem of JNMS is on the OJS of ICTP and authors can now submit and upload their articles with ease  at: http://ojs.ictp.it/jnms/index.php/jnms/index

This is a new sunrise and exciting experience for the Editorial Board members, Associate Editors, reviewers and other users

Organizations of the International Mathematical Union (IMU)

Dear colleagues,

Thanks to a generous donation by the Simons Foundation, the Commission for Developing Countries of the International Mathematical Union is

launching the IMU-Simons African Fellowship Program to support research visits of

mathematicians living and working in developing countries in Africa.

The grant covers travel, accommodation, visa, travel insurance and living costs up to USD 5,000 per mathematician.

The duration of the visit should be of a reasonable length of time to allow fruitful interaction.

In particular, the minimal length of a visit is one month.

Interested mathematicians must hold a valid doctoral degree and must be employed as a faculty member of a university or

equivalent institution in a developing country in Africa.

For a list of applicable countries, further requirements and the online application form please go here:

Deadlines:

November 1, 2016 (Decisions will be made by December 15, 2016) for visits starting between in January 2017 and January 2018

January 15, 2017 (Decisions will be made by February 28, 2017) for visits starting between April 2017 and April 2018

The IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowship Program

The IMU is today (22 Apr 2016) launching the novel IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowship Program.

Thanks to a generous donation by the winners of the Breakthrough Prizes in Mathematics – Ian Agol, Simon Donaldson, Maxim Kontsevich, Jacob Lurie, Terence Tao and Richard Taylor – IMU with the assistance of FIMU and TWAS is today launching a fellowship program to support postgraduate studies in a developing country, leading to a PhD degree in the mathematical sciences. The IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowships will offer a limited number of grants for excellent students from developing countries.

The deadline for nominations is 09:00 am CET on 22 June 2016.
